PRESS RELEASE
BALTIMORE - On January 13, 2006 the Gay Fathers Coalition-Baltimore (GFC) held its monthly meeting. We were pleased to have noted gay rights activist and attorney Mark Scurti as our guest speaker. Mark is the senior partner of Scurti, Meiselman & Bledsoe, the largest GLBT law firm in Maryland.
Mark has been a leading proponent of GLBT rights in Baltimore and throughout the state. He spoke to GFC members and their guests about many legal issues which affect GLBT families, including health care proxies, property rights, custody issues and fundamental tax implications regarding Gay relationships.
In addition, Mark talked of efforts during the previous legislative session which would have helped the GLBT community and bills that are or will be coming up in the current session, which runs through the beginning of April 2006.
GFC provides a place for Gay men with children and their partners to find a welcoming environment to discuss issues relevant to their lives. GFC meetings are held the 2nd Friday of each month at 7:30 pm, at the GLCCB located at 241 W. Chase St., Baltimore, MD.
GFC members are a diverse group of men from all backgrounds, races, and religions. We come together to give each other support and encouragement. Collectively our members have been through the trials and challenges of coming out, separation, divorce, rebuilding and establishing new relationships and raising healthy, happy, well adjusted children. GFC’s members are leading happy, fulfilling lives as loving fathers, partners and friends... who just happen to be gay.
Our Mission is to:
Provide a support and communications network for gay fathers.
Encourage cooperative action in promoting the common interests of gay fathers and their families.
Provide opportunities for social interaction between gay fathers, their children, and friends.
Promote and sponsor activities that present a positive image of gay fathers.
Encourage acceptance of alternative parenting within the community.
